What: US Embassy Blood Drive
When: Thursday, January 15, 2015, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Where: Rose Garden Building, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi
On January 15, AmCham members are invited to participate in the 4th US Embassy Blood Drive in cooperation with the Vietnamese National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT). This blood drive will be conducted with US standards for safety and cleanliness. There is no danger of contracting illness from donating blood. A new, sterile collection set is used for each donor. The goal is to collect 200 units of blood, to be used during Tet. Many local hospitals receive the blood and use it to save lives of trauma victims, surgical patients, and patients with life-threatening blood diseases. The Blood Bank typically experiences a shortage of blood and blood products before and after the TET Holiday due to the increasing number of traffic accidents.
Giving blood is a simple thing to do, but it can make a big difference in the lives of others. It feels great to donate and it only takes 30 minutes! And, it’s something you can spare as most people have plenty of blood to spare yet there is still not enough blood around when people need it. Most people who donate blood will experience no side effects. Drinking 3-4 glasses of water an hour before the donation can prevent lightheadedness which some people may notice. You will be someone’s hero – in fact, you could help save more than one life with just one donation. Plus, you’ll get free juice and cookies!
You can donate from 8:30am-11:30am, or from 1:00pm-3:30pm on January 15. Please register in advance by clicking HERE. A photo ID is required to gain access to the building.
