AmCham and the Kenan Institute Asia are teaming up to offer AmCham members a free ½ day workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility. This valuable workshop is perfect for CSR Managers, Communication Managers and External Affair Managers – anybody in the organization that focuses on CSR. Attendees will learn and understand how CSR provides better ways to do business, will gain insights from best practice case studies of leading companies, and will engage with specialists on CSR and community engagement.

Topics covered will include: Strategic CSR, Stakeholder Engagement, and Branding and Communication.

Strategic CSR: This session introduces the distinction between CSR and strategic CSR with case examples from US and SE Asian firms that did and did not make tactical errors in aligning their CSR choices with their strategies. It also reviews a number of approaches to identifying and investing in social responsible corporation.

Stakeholder Engagement: One of the key factors for a successful CSR strategy is the systematic engagement of stakeholders. This session elaborate on the stakeholder theory and how to identify all stakeholders and give practical experience in stakeholder mapping. In order to ensure sustainable relationships between an organization and its stakeholders.

Branding and Communication CSR: This session explores the definitions and trends of strategic CSR communication and brand management. As positive CSR leads to positive brand’s image, which is essential for businesses, this session will investigate how to align CSR with corporate business objectives and brand image.

Guest speakers:

John DaSilva, Senior Manager – Project Development, Kenan Institute Asia
John is a development professional with a unique background covering government, the private sector and NGOs. He began his career with the US government in 1996 where he spent seven years representing and advising key members of the US Congress, including oversight responsibility for USAID and the US Small Business Administration. After arriving in Thailand, he accepted a position with a Hong Kong-based human resources consultancy firm, before joining Kenan Institute Asia as the Project Development Manager in 2006. At KIA, he is chiefly responsible for designing programming activities in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam for development agencies such as USAID, the European Union and New Zealand AID, and for working with corporate donors such as Citi, Boeing and Microsoft to design and improve Corporate Social Responsibility programming.

Peeranun Panyavaranant, Manager – CSR Program, Kenan Institute Asia
Peeranun provides tailored CSR consulting and assessment services to clients in need. She has worked with leading companies like Intel, Mitr Phol, Rangsit Plaza, Thailand Post, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand and VinyThai to provide them with stakeholder engagement strategy and community-based needs assessments which gauge the attitudes of individual stakeholders in the communities in which these companies operate. In 2009, Peeranun works with academic teams from four major business schools in Vietnam, Kenan-Flager Business School and the University of London in the initiative to embed CSR in Vietnam through research, training and curriculum development.
