The digital world did not exist a generation ago, and now it is a fundamental fact of life. In the span of less than three decades, we have redefined the way humans communicate, entertain, inform, research, create, and connect – and what we know now is only a hint of what is to come. New social structures are generating new leadership styles with different patterns of hierarchical authority, different skill sets and attitudes, and different institutional incentives. Top management and board directors are facing increasing challenges in dealing with operational, managerial and strategic decision making in an information-driven global economy. On July 8, AmCham is pleased to welcome Professor Tung Bui from the University of Hawaii to present the latest business trends and propose an inquisitive approach to organizational leadership in today’s digital age.
About the guest speaker:
Professor Tung Bui currently holds the Matson Navigation Company chair of global business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is the Director of the Vietnam Executive MBA of the Shidler College of Business, and is the Director of the UH APEC Study Center. Dr. Bui earned a doctorate in managerial economics from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland and a Ph.D. in information systems from the Stern School of Business at New York University. Prior to joining the University of Hawaii, he was on the faculty at the United States Naval Postgraduate School, New York University, the Universities of Fribourg and Lausanne, the University of Quebec, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the University of Nuremberg-Erlangen. Prof. Bui has published 12 books and over 160 papers. In 1993, a research journal nominated him as “one of the most influential researchers in the field of decision support systems” based on citation. In addition to scientific awards, Bui is the recipient of the 2003 SBA Small Business Research Advocate Award by the U.S. Department of Commerce. He is a regular speaker worldwide and is on the editorial board of a number of prestigious academic journals related to information technology in business and society. His current research interests focus on the effective management of large organizations, electronic commerce, sustainable development, and in collaborative technology, including group decision and negotiation support systems and crisis management.
