Boeing has long recognized the importance of Vietnam and has actively helped to develop Vietnam’s aerospace capabilities. Before the beginning of formal Vietnam–U.S. relations more than 20 years ago, Boeing had already positioned itself to work in partnership with Vietnam.

Boeing first established its presence in 1995 when Vietnam Airlines leased three Boeing 767-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes. The company was also a strong advocate for normalized relations between the two countries. In January 2001, Vietnam Airlines purchased four Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. This signing was the first business transaction to be finalized between companies in Vietnam and the United States under the historic Bilateral Trade Agreement. Today,Vietnam Airlines operates 777-200ERs and 787 Dreamliners. In 2015, Boeing announced with VietJet Air, an intention to collaborate and expand the airline’s future fleet with Boeing airplanes. In 2016 VietJet signed a historic purchase agreement for one hundred (100) 737-MAX 200 airplanes. Deliveries will begin in 2019.

Boeing has undertaken a number of activities to help develop Vietnam’s aerospace capabilities in cooperation with Vietnam’s airlines, the CAAV, local universities, suppliers, partners and the government.

Boeing is also involved in numerous partnerships working to better the lives of the Vietnamese people including building more than 25 schools in the poorest regions in the country.
