Biography

Boeing has long recognized the importance of Vietnam and has actively helped to develop Vietnam’s aerospace capabilities. Before the beginning of formal Vietnam–U.S. relations almost 25 years ago, Boeing had already positioned itself to work in partnership with Vietnam.

Commercial
Boeing first established its presence in 1995 when Vietnam Airlines leased three Boeing 767-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes. The company was also a strong advocate for normalized relations between the two countries. In January 2001, Vietnam Airlines purchased four Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. This signing was the first business transaction to be finalized between companies in Vietnam and the United States under the historic Bilateral Trade Agreement. Today, Vietnam Airlines operates a modern fleet of 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliner’s. In 2015, Boeing announced with VietJet Air, an intention to collaborate and expand the airline’s future fleet with Boeing airplanes. In 2016 VietJet signed a historic purchase agreement for one-hundred (100) 737-MAX 200 airplanes. Deliveries will begin in 2020.

Defense
Boeing is excited about the US-Vietnamese relations improving at a steady pace since the State Department fully lifted the arms embargo on Vietnam in 2016. Boeing would like to be part of the solution to Vietnam’s challenging security issues and help address missions such as maritime security, HA/DR, PKO, and improvements to their overall defense readiness. Our Scan Eagles sales to their Coast Guard was the very first defense equipment sale to Vietnam since lifting of the arms embargo. We hope Scan Eagle sale will lead to other defense platform acquisitions by the Vietnamese Armed Forces. Boeing has a strong track record of working with local industries globally and would like to seek opportunities to collaborate with Vietnamese defense industries going forward leveraging Boeing commercial success in Vietnam.

Chan May LNG Joint Stock Company from US & Vietnamese investors is developing a 4,000MW LNG Power Plant & Gas Plant with an estimated investment of US $ 5 billion ($4bil for power plant and $1bil for gas storage & other facilities), located in Chan May – Lang Co Economic Zone in Thua Thien Hue province, to contribute to increasing capacity of electricity supply and reducing the trade deficit balance of Vietnam – US.
This plant will be powered by LNG imported from the US (3-4 billion m3 each year), along with the gas turbine from a US supplier. Chan May LNG power plant is planned to be in operation in 2024.
Chan May LNG is a project “enhancing development and growth thru energy” (EDGE). EDGE is an international program supporting regional energy security.

In the fiscal year 2018, accumulated revenue of CMC reached 5,862 billion Vietnam dong, profit before tax was 302 billion Vietnam dong. Expected for the year 2023, the corporation revenue will reach 1 billion USD and the number of employees will reach 10,000 staffs.
