John Rockhold, Chan May LNG
Mr. Rockhold has been living and working in Vietnam since 1992 and he is currently implementing projects of LNG imports, terminals, and power plants from the USA as well as solar and wind projects. He served on the Board of AmCham Hanoi during this year.
Since 2009, he has served as Chairman of the Vietnam Business Forum Power and Energy Working Group, and since 2016, the Co-Chairman of the AmCham Vietnam Energy Committee. He also manages a foundation to assist children who have no power with solar lights.
John has been involved with private sector participation within social infrastructure utilities since 1995 when he established Vietnam’s first 100% privately owned environmental consulting firm. In that role he worked with numerous Vietnamese Ministries and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in the design, construction and operation of over 20 major social infrastructure projects throughout Vietnam.
Mr. Rockhold founded Los Angeles based Pacific Rim Investment and Management Inc. (PRIM) in 2000 to work with private sector companies on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) opportunities within the greater Ho Chi Minh City area and throughout the Mekong Delta. He has worked with over 70 investors throughout the US and Asia regarding investment and operations of various industries. PRIM has backed John’s participation into Chan May LNG JSC which is a $5.5 billion LNG to Power Project in central Vietnam.
As an officer of the AmCham HCMC chapter board of governors, John stepped-in as interim Executive Director from 2017 until earlier 2009. Under his leadership, the HCMC chapter reached record membership levels of just over 500 members, business events grew by over 550%, revenue grew by over 39%, costs were lowered, and cooperation between the two AmCham chapter offices improved.
Mr. Rockhold served in the US Navy for over eight years, including two tours in Vietnam, and with the US Government under direct contract in Africa, Asia and Central America. Mr. Rockhold is married to a Vietnamese national and they have two children. The family farms in Hau Giang Province within the Mekong Delta.
If elected to the board for another term, he will use his experience and contribute the time necessary to grow AmCham Hanoi.
