Eric Johnson, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer

Eric Johnson joined Freshfields in Vietnam in March 2017 and has been working in Vietnam ever since. At Freshfields, Eric focuses on representing leading multinational corporations and financial investors on their investments, exits and operations in Vietnam and other key jurisdictions in Southeast Asia, many of which are from the United States.

In recent years, Freshfields has more than doubled the size of our US practice to nearly 400 lawyers across three offices in New York, Washington D.C. and Silicon Valley.  As an American working for Freshfields in Asia, Eric has been on the forefront of the firm’s efforts to find opportunities to work with more of our US clients on their matters in Vietnam and other key Southeast Asian jurisdictions and has spent significant time in recent years visiting and working from the US offices and creating connections between the US and Asia.

Eric has been an active member of AmCham since arriving in Vietnam and served three terms on the Board of Governors in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In addition, Eric represented Amcham on the VBF board in 2019.

If elected, Eric’s focus for 2024 will be on building bridges within the national Amcham organization with like-minded people who are focused on the future instead of on the past. Following the recent elevation of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US as well as the coming 30th anniversary of Amcham in Vietnam, 2024 is full of opportunities for the organization. To seize these opportunities, everyone involved in the leadership of Amcham will need to work together to ensure Amcham can support its members during this exciting time and thrive as an organization for 30 more years.

Eric holds Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and a J.D. from Cornell Law School.  In his spare time, Eric enjoys cycling, exploring Vietnam on his BMW GS and getting as many ski days in as possible in Japan and/or his home state of Colorado.
