AmCham Hosts APEC Welcome Reception in Danang
On Wednesday evening of APEC week in Danang, AmCham hosted a welcome reception for the US business and government delegations to APEC. AmCham Chair Natasha Ansell made remarks at the event along with new US Ambassador to Vietnam Dan Kritenbrink. Over 250 guests enjoyed great BBQ food, drinks, music, and high-quality networking. AmCham members from Hanoi and HCMC met many visiting US company executives and we thank our AmCham Corporate Partners for sponsoring “the best event of the week” in Danang.
This year is the second time Vietnam is hosting APEC since acceding to the group in 1998. Vietnamese officials consider Vietnam’s APEC chairmanship to be its most important diplomatic event to take place over the next decade. That is due, in part, to APEC’s strategic importance to Vietnam; nineteen APEC economies participate in free trade agreements with Vietnam and its trade with APEC economies represents 79 percent of the country’s total trade. APEC economies also invest significantly in Vietnam, representing nearly 80 percent of total foreign direct investment.
