AmCham members meet President Trump and Secretary Tillerson in Hanoi
A group of AmCham members and leaders participated in Saturday night’s State Dinner honoring President Trump hosted by President Tran Dai Quang. President Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and other senior members of the Administration casually chatted with many guests during the event. President Quang acknowledged difficulties in the relationship over the years and the ups and downs of history that preceded the current era of peace, stability, cooperation, and development. Quang said the present period is a ‘vibrant time of bilateral relations’ between the two countries. In his toast, President Trump said, “We have come a long way, the United States and Vietnam. We’ve seen it from both sides of the picture, and this is the pleasant side.” “You are doing a spectacular job, your people are doing a spectacular job, and in the United States likewise we are doing very, very well,” Trump said, touting America’s economic strength since he took office. Trump added, “I toured Vietnam today. I was through the streets of Hanoi, and it’s incredible to see, incredible to watch, and it’s truly one of the great marvels. It really is something to behold. I would like to congratulate the people of Vietnam; I would like to congratulate you, Mr. President, on an outstanding job.” Trump is the 4th American President in a row to visit Vietnam. Concluding his toast, President Trump said that, “Vietnam has truly become one of the great miracles of the world, and it’s very impressive. No matter where you come from, no matter who you are, when you look at what’s happened in Vietnam, there is nothing more impressive.”
