The AmCham Young Professionals Committee offers a unique outlet for emerging leaders to network in a casual and fun environment. This committee helps members build their personal and professional networks, and helps develop career skills and development through speaking events, opportunities for learning, networking events, and exposure to business leaders. There is no age limit, you just have to be young at heart!

Members and friends are invited to join our “Coffee with the CEO” event on June 23. Our guest speaker is the CEO of Starbucks Vietnam, Patricia Marques. Patricia will share her background, career path, learned lessons, and advice for the next generation of leaders – especially women leaders.

Patricia Marques has built Starbucks in Vietnam serving as the CEO of Starbucks Vietnam for the past ten years. She is a retail expert, having served as Director of International Operations at Saks Fifth Avenue and also time at Panera Bread Co.

Starbucks opened its first store in 1971 near the historic Pike Place Market in Seattle. In the Vietnamese market, Starbucks opened its first store in HCMC in February 2013. More than 25 years ago, Patricia worked as an employee at a Starbucks store in California. On the company’s 25th anniversary of establishment, she was given a blue T-shirt, with the back printed with many stars and words “To 1000 stores. Dream big”. At that time, Starbucks had about 400 stores in the US and many employees said that the ambition of opening 1,000 stores was “crazy”. The company now has over 35,000 stores worldwide.

Patricia feels strongly that the difference between an extremely difficult path and an easy one is the people. Generous and kind people are there to offer you a hand, a word of advice or simply a finger in the right direction can make all the difference. She feels extremely lucky to have met many great people when she needed a friendly hand throughout my career from mentors, and friends to coaches. She knows we all need more people willing to help other people and she looks forward to meeting our AmCham group on June 23.
