Voting to choose which Democrat will face Donald Trump in this year’s Presidential election has already begun. Where do the leading candidates stand on the issues most important to AmCham members? What are the implications of this election for US foreign policy and trade policy? Join us for lunch on March 9 as AmCham and the US-Asean Business Council welcome longtime political expert Nelson Cunningham for a discussion about the current state of the presidential elections in the US.

About Guest Speaker:

Nelson Cunningham is President and Co-founder of McLarty Associates, an international strategic advisory firm headed by former White House Chief of Staff Mack McLarty. Cunningham was also Special Advisor to President Clinton for Western Hemisphere Affairs and previously served as a counsel at the White House and as General Counsel of the Senate Judiciary Committee under Senator Joe Biden. Prior to that, he was a federal prosecutor in New York under then-US Attorney Rudy Giuliani. Cunningham also served as a member of the President Obama’s Transition Team and an advisor during the campaign, and was a foreign policy and trade advisor to John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign, as well as to other Democratic candidates. He is currently an advisor to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.

At McLarty Associates, Cunningham is responsible for guiding service to clients and is a skilled strategist on national and international policy issues. He is a member of the Secretary of State’s Foreign Affairs Policy Board, the State Department Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy, and past chairman of the Export-Import Bank’s Advisory Committee. He also serves as President of the American Security Project, Vice Chair of the Business Council for International Understanding and of the Institute of the Americas; and is past Chair of NDN’s Latin America Policy Initiative. He is an active member of the boards of the Atlantic Council and the US-India Business Council, and is a member of the Yale President’s Council on International Activities, the Council of the Americas, and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Cunningham is a magna cum laude graduate of Yale College and Stanford Law School, where he served as editor of the Stanford Law Review.
