AES in Vietnam
Our vision is to be a leading sustainable power company in Vietnam that provides safe, reliable and affordable energy.
AES, through its subsidiary, AES Mong Duong Power Company Limited, previously named AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Company Limited, has successfully developed and arranged financing for the Mong Duong 2 BOT Power Project of 1,242 MW with the total investment of approximately 2,1 billion USD. This is Vietnam’s first and largest Build – Operate – Transfer (“BOT”) coal-fired power project, representing approximately 2.6% of the country’s installed capacity.
In November 2017, AES signed an MOU with PV Gas in the presence of US President Donald J. Trump and Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang to develop $1.3 billion Son My LNG Terminal Project. In November 2019, AES also signed an MOU with Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop a 2.2 GW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant under the BOT scheme, which will be located in Binh Thuan province. Together, the CCGT

Boeing has long recognized the importance of Vietnam and has actively helped to develop Vietnam’s aerospace capabilities. Before the beginning of formal Vietnam–U.S. relations almost 25 years ago, Boeing had already positioned itself to work in partnership with Vietnam.
Boeing first established its presence in 1995 when Vietnam Airlines leased three Boeing 767-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes. The company was also a strong advocate for normalized relations between the two countries. In January 2001, Vietnam Airlines purchased four Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. This signing was the first business transaction to be finalized between companies in Vietnam and the United States under the historic Bilateral Trade Agreement. Today, Vietnam Airlines operates a modern fleet of 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliner’s. In 2015, Boeing announced with VietJet Air, an intention to collaborate and expand the airline’s future fleet with Boeing airplanes. In 2016 VietJet signed a historic purchase agreement for one-hundred (100) 737-MAX 200 airplanes. Deliveries will begin in 2020.
Boeing is excited about the US-Vietnamese relations improving at a steady pace since the State Department fully lifted the arms embargo on Vietnam in 2016. Boeing would like to be part of the solution to Vietnam’s challenging security issues and help address missions such as maritime security, HA/DR, PKO, and improvements to their overall defense readiness. Our Scan Eagles sales to their Coast Guard was the very first defense equipment sale to Vietnam since lifting of the arms embargo. We hope Scan Eagle sale will lead to other defense platform acquisitions by the Vietnamese Armed Forces. Boeing has a strong track record of working with local industries globally and would like to seek opportunities to collaborate with Vietnamese defense industries going forward leveraging Boeing commercial success in Vietnam.
Boeing has undertaken a number of activities to help develop Vietnam’s aerospace capabilities in cooperation with Vietnam’s airlines, the CAAV, local universities, suppliers, partners and the government.
Boeing is also involved in numerous partnerships working to better the lives of the Vietnamese people including building more than 25 schools inthe poorest regions in the country.
