The Representative Office of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Pte Ltd was set up in Vietnam in Jul 02 following the merger of two pharmaceutical corporations, SmithKline Beecham and Glaxo Welcome in Jan.04, 2001. GSK is a market leader in anti-infective, respiratory, anti-viral, vaccine and gastroenterology therapy areas. 7 brands of GSK have been listed in the top 50 products in the market. The company has been able to maintain fast growth during its presence in Vietnam and acquired the highest share in the ethical pharmaceutical industry. Community Partnership projects are part of the continuous contributions of the local Representative Office to the country’s development. Some of these are the FCO/Chevening scholarship; Helmets for Kids; Fund for the Poor; Training 500 Ethic Mid-wives and signicant medicines and medical equipment donations to various projects. In November 2005, GSK signed the local manufacturing agreement with OPV Pharmaceuticals to have some of its high quality products produced in Vietnam. In line with the guidelines of Vietnam’s Ministry of Health (MOH), this toll manufacturing project will not only provide Vietnamese people with world class quality products at more reasonable prices, but also support the capacity-building efforts of the local pharmaceutical industry. GSK also participates in clinical research trials and educational programs with various Vietnamese hospitals to improve the practice of medicine.
