Imagine rowing solo across the Pacific Ocean in a 24′ boat! This is exactly what Erden Eruc has done. Now holding 17 Guinness World Records, the 61-year old Turkish-American will be crossing the East Sea in his final leg of his long trip across the entire Pacific Ocean, landing in Vietnam next month. Not only is this the first time a person has rowed across the Pacific north of the Equator in a row boat, but Erden will then continue his journey by riding a bicycle all the way to Portugal to continue his all human-powered circumnavigation of Earth. Join your friends at AmCham for a luncheon to welcome Erden and hear about his incredible journey rowing across the ocean and the challenges he faced along the way.

Biggest Challenge Ahead

Making the final crossing of the East Sea is extremely challenging. He hopes to land in Danang, three weeks from setting off from The Philippines, although winds and currents could force a landing anywhere along the coast of Vietnam, and in extreme cases from China to Malaysia. Wherever he lands, we look forward to welcoming him in Hanoi on March 22.
