Tony Foster, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer

Tony Foster FreshfieldsTony Foster is a partner in the international law firm of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer whose Vietnam offices he established in 1994 immediately after the embargo was lifted.

Though a native Nebraskan, he has lived in Hanoi and been active in AmCham affairs since 1994, which has resulted in a slight loss of the Midwestern accent when he speaks. He had the honor of serving as Chairman of AmCham Hanoi in 2003, is active on the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) – the consortium of business associations which advocates for a better business climate  here – and heads up the VBF’s Infrastructure Committee (though given the poor state of infrastructure in the country, he is somewhat hesitant to admit the fact).

At work, he advises American companies on the legal aspects of their investments and the financing of their investments in Vietnam. At home he used to teach his children the finer points of squash, golf, swimming, croquet and horseshoes, and (on vacation) skiing and ice-climbing, but his days as teacher have largely been eroded by time.
